To Kill A King

Synopsis
To Kill A King is a film set after the English civil war, which documents the actions of Oliver Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax after the war
“A recounting of the relationship between General Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell, as they try to cope with the consequences of deposing King Charles I”
      http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0302436/

The film is mainly about the politics and characters of the situation rather than about fight scenes, (though this may be because of the budget of the film)

Production
To kill a king was directed by Mike Barker and produced by Kevin Loader. The film had an estimated film budget of £8,864,287 ($14,300,000). During production the film nearly went bankrupt twice.

The film was produced by FilmFour along with...
• IAC Film
• Natural Nylon Entertainment
• Rockwood Edge
• Scion Films
• Screenland Movieworld GmbH

FilmFour was also one of the distributors of the film along with...
Theatrical distributors
• Shaw Organisation
• FilmFour (UK)
• HanWay Films
• Laurenfilm (Spain)
• Paradise Group (2003) (Russia) (all media)
Home distributors
• Flashstar Home Vídeo (Brazil) (DVD)
• Flashstar Home Vídeo (Brazil) (VHS)
• Anchor Bay Entertainment (USA) (DVD)

Exhibition
Despite the film having a budget in the millions it only just hit £150,000 grossing only £59,701 in the UK and €96,232 in Spain. The film was later released on VHS and DVD for home exhibition. It has also been made into a Blu-ray release as of October 19th 2010.

Because of the cast and production values of this film it is one which you would expect to see in a multiplex cinema and was released for cinemas, it did very badly at the box office however.

Horizontal and vertical integration
The film was developed by FilmFour (along with other production companies) and film four is a subsidiary of channel four (horizontally integrated) FilmFour is also vertically integrated as it was involved in both the production and distribution of To Kill A King
